The 3rd Annual Trusted Choice Tournament of Champions was once
again a terrific event to attend. It has fastly become the
best Thanksgiving tournament in America! There was a wide
variety of ages, but the talent was top level. The two top
players at the event were both North Carolina commitments and
are both elite 5-star prospects.

John Henson PF Sickles (FL) Class of 2009
(North Carolina)
I knew that John Henson was tall
and very long. Trust me, you don't fully understand how
tall and long he is until you see him in person!
Unfortunately, John was out with an ankle injury and did not
play for his new Tampa Sickles team. He is still an elite
top 5 prospect in the class of 2009 and will be looked at as a
lottery pick in the 2010 NBA Draft.

Reggie
Bullock SG Kinston (NC) Class of 2010 (North Carolina)
The game I saw the highly rated junior play was against Lake
Forest Academy from Chicago. This was the last game of the
night, but Bullock put on the best performance of the day.
He has a great body for a shooting guard. His frame will
allow him to add even more muscle once he gets to UNC. The
one faze on this night that Reggie had going on all cylinders
was the 3-point ball. He hit 7 threes in the game.
It was consistent form and consistently went down. Moving
well without the ball helped Bullock to get in position for
several of his bombs. He could also get in the lane
smoothly when ever he wanted to against LFA. The future
Tar Heel finished with 36 points on the night. There is no
doubt that Reggie Bullock is a top 10 player in the Class of
2010. His combination of production and potential is a
lethal combination at his age.

Angus
Brandt PF Lake Forest Academy (IL) Class of 2009
Brandt is one
of the most heavily recruited players in the Class of 2009 in
the nation at this moment. Brandt just came over to the
USA from Australia recently and is now attending Lake Forest
Academy in Chicago. The first thing that jumps out about
Brandt is the level of energy he plays with. He is
constantly moving! Brandt is very athletic and has good
feet. This was never more apparent than on his drop step
bucket that was extremely smooth. His handle is very well
developed for a big man his age. Also, Brandt's passing
skills is an elite weapon. His high-low passing is
great. The range on his shot extends out to the high
school three point arc. It is very much an international
big man's game. Defensively he communicates with his
teammates and lets everyone know where they are supposed to
be. This is surprising because he was taking a major
leadership role despite being in the US for only a few
months. He altered several shots in both games that I saw
him play. Brandt is a top 65 player in the Class of
2009. Watch Out for the AUSSIE!!!!

David
Smith SG Lake Forest Academy (IL) Class of 2009 (Drake)
Smith is a
well-rounded player. He is strong and athletic. At
the high school level he is a shooting guard, but at Drake he
could develop into a point guard because of his passing
skills. He has a hitch in his shot, but it is sound form
outside of that. Smith is a solid mid-major prospect that
will have a nice 4-year career in the MVC.

Mike
Shaw PF De La Salle (IL) Class of 2011
It is always neat to see the birth of the next great
superstar. I think this young man is the next one.
Shaw is the next in the line of elite talent of the state of
Illinois that has been proceeded by the likes of Derrick Rose
and Kevin Garnett. Shaw is super athletic and
explosive. The way he snatches the ball out of the air on
rebounds above everyone else is reminiscent of Dwight
Howard. Overall his game is continuing to improve.
He was showed flashes at the Illinois team camp in June, but now
is starting to put it all together. The little things are
starting to come easier to him. The mid range jumper is
starting to fall more consistently. Defensively he played
hard and had active hands in passing lanes. Against Nolan
Dennis and one of the top teams in Texas Shaw had about 15 and
10 by my count in a trashing of the highly rated lonestar state
team. He helped his team jump out to a 25-2 lead to open
the game. In my mind there is no doubt that Shaw is the #1
player in the nation in the Class of 2011. I think Shaw
could be the next Chris Webber and one day could be a #1 overall
NBA Draft choice.

Dre
Henley SG De La Salle (IL) Class of 2011
Henley is the
Robin to Shaw's Batman on De La Salle. The sophomore is a
high major recruit on his own. He is an athletic slasher
that can get to the hoop. He ran the floor well and
finished in transition. The lefty has a nice fluid motion
on his shot. His frame is long and lanky. Henley
could develop into a top 100 player in the Class of 2011.

Nolan
Dennis SG Richland (TX) Class of 2009 (Memphis)
Dennis is a
highly rated two guard that was heavily recruited and is now a
commitment for the Memphis Tigers. The best facet of
Dennis' game might be the slick handle he has going to the
basket. He could get in the lane and handled the ball well
in traffic throughout the game. The quickness that Dennis
got off of the floor was very impressive. His jump shot
has good form and solid rotation, but it was very
inconsistent. The future Tiger scored in double figures in
both games I saw him including a 20 point effort against Tampa
Sickles. Dennis is a prospect that should be somewhere in
the 25-30 range nationally.

Dyricus
Sims-Edwards SG Washington (IL) Class of 2009
Last year all
the hype was about the hometown kid, Matt Roth. Roth was
INSANE!!! But, I did notice he had a nice player next to
him in the backcourt. Edwards is the leader of the
Washington Panthers now. He has a strong, solidly built
body. He is a combo guard, but proved to me that he has
the ability to play the point at the next level. Edwards
can lead the break and can make both the fundamental and flashy
pass. Quickness off the dribble jumped out at me about his
game. On a team that is known for great shooters, Edwards
fits right in. His spot up shooting ability will be a big
asset for him at the next level. He was beat off of the
dribble a few times on the defensive end showing a lack of lateral
quickness. The mid-major that gets Edwards is getting a
winning 4 year player!

Jordan
Davis PG Sickles (FL) Class of 2010
Davis was the
player that steped up in Henson's absence. The point guard
is slick in the lane and can really handle it. His vision
is at an upper echelon level. The junior rebounded well
for a guard his size. His 3-point shot looks very good as
well. He is a top 100 player in the Class of 2010.
|
Noel
Johnson SF Fayette County (GA) Class of 2009 (USC)
I only got to
see a limited amount of Noel's game vs. Champaign Central.
What I did see what an athletic wing that is very long. He
can really shoot the ball from the perimeter too. His shot
is quick and pure. Johnson will be a big time scorer in
the Pac 10 for the Trojans.
|
Jordan
Prosser PF Eureka (IL) Class of 2009 (Bradley)
Prosser is just
a beast on the boards. He outworks the opponent and will
go for every loose ball. In a game against Howe he kept
getting big rebounds and hitting shots down the stretch.
Prosser will be able to score in the low post and rebound at a
high rate in the MVC for the Bradley Braves. He is a
boarder line top 100 player in the Class of 2009.
|
PJ Boutte PG Indianapolis Howe (IN) Class
of 2011
The sophomore point guard is small, but is
a player. He can shoot the ball and is an extremely flashy
passer. Boutte is a guy that will rise in the rankings
over the next several years.
|
Jordan Manuel PF Indianapolis Howe (IN)
Class of 2010
Manuel did not play and after their game
told me he is not cleared to play yet. At half time of the
Howe game, he shot around a little and did a couple of
impressive dunks. It was just a shoot around session in
dress clothes, but you could see the obvious talent that is
there. |
