Highland Shootout
This event in
the past has brought in big names like last years #3 and #4
players, Thaddeus Young and Brandan Wright. This year did
not have any names that big, but there were 3 top 75 players in
the Class of 2007 on display and one big time Class of 2009
member to watch out for.

Leon
Powell SF Vashon (SF) Class of 2007
Powell is becoming a hot commodity for some high-major
schools. It is easy to see why. Powell is a long,
rangy athlete who can play on the next level. He is real
active on the offensive glass. Leon is a high energy guy
who loves to run the floor and get points in transition, but
scores well in the half court as well. He will be a great
"glue" guy for a high major team. Being solid all around
is what Powell is about. My only concerns is how thin he
is, size (6-6), and free throw shooting. I think other
than that he would be a great pickup. Illinois is picking
up the heat on this kid. He will be moving into the top
75!

Maurice Miller PG Raleigh-Egypt (TN) Class of 2007 (Georgia
Tech)
The future Yellow Jacket is built like a brick wall. His
body is so powerful. He makes the right passes in both
half court and in transition. Miller handles the ball
well, contains an explosive 1st step, ad has a GREAT perimeter
shot. He will be the future PG out the Yellow Jackets once
Jarvis Crittenton departs for the NBA. Miller is a top 75
recruit.

Keaton
Nankivil C Memorial (WI) Class of 2007 (Wisconsin)
I saw Nankivil play as sophomore in person and was real
impressed. He has matured into the type of player I
thought he would be. He has lost weight and added muscle.
He has a body that can hang in there in the Big 10. Keaton
has good footwork, a soft touch, great passing ability, and nice
athleticism. He fights for position and goes up hard for
second chance points. He moves well without the ball.
The big man plays well in a high-low game. My concerns
would be that he is a little slow on defense and is just an
average shot blocker because of that. Also his stamina
needs to be improved and he is slightly weak with the ball.
Nankivil is a solid prospect that belongs in the top 50 in the
Class of 2007 rankings.

Jeronne Maymon PF Memorial (WI) Class of 2009
This sophomore lefty was the MVP of Memorial's game. He is
explosive and smooth with the ball. Maymon runs the floor
well. He has a nice outside shot. The knocks on him
would be that he sometimes plays out of control. Right now
he is a SF, but by the time he leaves Memorial I believe he will
be a PF ready to play major D-1 basketball. He is a top 30
player in the Class of 2009 and could move up.
******EXCLUSIVE******
I talked to Jeronne after the game and he told me he is being
recruited by Texas, UCLA, and USC. |
