Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions

Southeast Elite vs. Indiana Elite

Romero Osby SF Southeast Elite Class of 2008 (Mississippi St.)

Osby has NBA small forward written all over him. He has a very strong body and uses it to get to the hoop with ease. Most of his scores come of hard drives to the basket using his terrific handle. Anyone who drives well will get to the line consistently, which Osby also does. From the perimeter Osby has a nice stroke. Osby looked like a top 15 player in the Class of 2008.

Courtney Fortson PG Southeast Elite Class of 2008

Forston has been one of the most pleasant surprises this summer. He is small, strong, and not afraid to go in among the trees. The lefty can shoot it from three, but likes to get in the lane and get his shot off. He creates space with his body. Fortson leads his team and is a true floor general. His size might hurt him in his chances to get to the NBA, but he has big time heart and will be a great college player. Forston is a top 65 prospect.

Emmanuel Negedu PF Indiana Elite Class of 2008 (Arizona)

Negedu is a beast on the boards. He uses his tough explosive ability to get boards and then finish them. The future Wildcat is a scoring monster inside. He plays like an undersized power forward. Negedu showed that he is a legit 5-Star prospect and a top 25 player overall.

Tyler Zeller PF Indiana Elite Class of 2008

Zeller loves to get up and down the court. He consistently beasts his man down the floor in transition. This is how he gets a lot of his points. In the half court he has a slow shot put release with a nice soft touch. He has nice range on his shot, which comes out to 15 feet. He is decent on the boards, but his strength hurts him. Zeller is extremely thin. That hurts him on the defensive end. He does get down in a proper defensive stance and tries to guard the stronger interior scorer to the best of his ability. Zeller is a top 30 prospect overall.

Lewis Jackson PG Indiana Elite Class of 2008 (Purdue)

Lew Jack is a lighting quick, pass first point guard. He runs the Indiana Elite team to perfection. He is surrounded by great talent and lets them do their thing. His job is to set them up. Jackson works well around high screens and can score in the paint off of them. His quickness helps him on the defensive end. Jackson is a top 60 prospect in the Class of 2008.

Walter Offutt SG Indiana Elite Class of 2008 (Ohio St.)

Offut was superb in this game. The athletic two guard is active and aggressive. He has a solid all around offensive game highlighted by his mid range game. The future buckeye can flat out get to the hoop. Offutt is also a nice passer. He is a solid on ball defender. Offutt’s stock rose in this game to somewhere in the middle of the 4-Stars.

16-U Championship Game

Team Breakdown vs. Marquis Daniels Ballers

Kenny Boynton SG Team Breakdown Class of 2009

Kenny Boynton is a big guard with major scoring ability, but we did not see that on this night.  He was a major dissapointment in this game and a total non factor in the second half.  His younger teammate Brandon Knight outplayed him for sure in this game.

David Loubeau PF Team Breakdown Class of 2009

Loubeau dominated the interior Team Breakdown.  He is really long and very active around the hoop.  His post moves are beyond his years which is helped by his great footwork on the interior.  He got to the line at a solid rate and hit from the charity stripe with his smooth shooting stroke.  Against an undermatched front line Loubeau would not let the Ballers get second chances on the boards as he grabbed everything near him.  His length played a huge role defensively in making the Ballers alter their shots or smacking it back at them.  Loubeau really helped his stock in this game.  He looked like a 5-Star prospect in this game.

Brandon Knight PG Team Breakdown Class of 2010

This young point guard is playing like a member of the rising senior class and not a rising sophomore.  Knight is a flashy passer who is learning how to run a talented team.  He has great size for a point at a solid 6-3.  He scores at all three levels on the floor including a solid perimeter shot.  The super soph changes gears so fast and has an explosive first step off the dribble.  Defensively he showed that he can grow into a very good on ball defender.  On the down side, his flashy passing at times can hinder his team.  Like the top 2008 PG Brandon Jennings, Knight does commit some bad and unforced turnovers.  I was very impressed with Knight.  The player he reminds me of is Derrick Rose.  They have a similar speed and explosive first step.  Knight is a prime canidate for the top prospect in the Class of 2010.

Midstate Ballerz vs. Southern California All Stars

Scotty Hopson SG Midstate Ballerz Class of 2008 (Mississippi St.)

The SEC commit is an EXPLOSIVE scorer.  This 6-5 wing can get to the rim and converts while he is there.  Hopson has legit range out the beyond the 3 point arc.  Offensively he is very smooth in all facets of his game including good passing and being active around the hoop.  He is active on defense also which is helped by his great length.  Hopson is a legit 5-Star prospect and a guy that should end up in the top 20 overall in the Class of 2008 rankings.

Brandon Jennings PG SCA Class of 2008 (Arizona)

Jennings has pushed away the rest of the top 2008 Point Guards from him and has secured the top PG ranking in the Class of 2008.  He is extemely quick with the ball in his hands. The best time for Jennings to show off his game is in the transition game.  His flashy passes are going to be a crowd pleaser in Tuscon next year.  They also might make the fans nervous when the see some rising turnover numbers.  His shot is very streaky from deep, but his pull up jumpers are solid from midrange.  Even though he is small Jennings is not afraid to go in and help out on the boards.  He has a killer instinct to take over the game when his team needs him.  Jennings has solidified a top 5 ranking in the Class of 2008 and the #1 PG.

Demetrius Walker SG SCA Class of 2009

Walker has been a very hyped prospect.  He was featured in SI at a very early age.  He was the next LeBron.  Then there was a backlash against him.  He might not be LeBron, but he is a good prospct with room to grow as a player.  Walker is a good athlete and is best when attacking the hoop both in transition and in the half court.  He needs to continue to attack instead of settling for perimeter shots. He can hit that shot, but is better off attacking.  Defensively he can get in the passing lanes and get steals.  Walker is a top 30 player in the Class of 2009.
